CBI, NIA, NCB Should Join Crime Database : Shah

Central police agencies like CBI , NIA and NCB should soon join the Crime and Criminal Tracking System(CCTNS)  that has already integrated the databases of 99% of the country's police stations, home minister Amit Shah said on Friday.

Shah, in his address during the 37th foundation day celebrations of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), also called upon NCRB to move beyond just merely compiling and analyzing crime data as provision of The Indian Penal Code and look it through the lens of social factors that may be spurring crime.

He Said that crime data , if also collected and viewed through the social perspective, could greatly improve crime control strategies. For example he stated if trend of the crimes like theft and robbery increasing during drought is linked to the misery it brings people the strategy can be tailored accordingly to prevent crime. Like if the district collector, SP and relief commissioner hold a meeting right at the onset of drought and strategies an early crime prevention and relief strategy , people would not be driven to crime .

The HM said the police should keep an eye on places where large educational institutions and new hostel are being built and monitoring the type of criminal activity that is taking place around them. A solution can not be found by looking at crimes only from the perspectives of IPC it should be analyzed separately and this is the responsibility of the NCRB and the BPR & D . The two should present a paper with a solution at the DGP conference and workshops should be organized after  discussing the matter with the states . Shah told participants that included two Mos  (Home) Nityanand Rai and Ajay Mishra Teni home secretary Ajay Bhalla and director , NCRB.

Shah listed three aspects as important while dealing with data. First is access so the data is available publicized and retrievable in such a way that the right persons gets access at the right time. Second is the data storage format so that maximum data can be stored.

Third aspects relates to tools for its analysis which must be most modern.
